Open source

Open source shouldn't mean “open until we figure out monetization.”

So we wrote the rules down. The Helpthread core is AGPL-3.0. Resonant IQ can sell modules around it, but we don't get private APIs, hidden hooks or special access.

01

Core stays open.

Helpthread's core is AGPL-3.0, and what ships free stays free. A capability released in the free core is never later withdrawn behind a commercial licence.

02

No secret back door.

Our commercial modules use the same events, webhooks and API yours do. When one of ours needs something new, that something ships in the public extension model first.

03

The foundation stays small.

The core is conversations, threading, the inbox, the API and events. Applications like knowledge bases and AI assistants live on top of it rather than swallowing it.

Governance

Maintained in the open.

Resonant IQ, Inc. maintains Helpthread. The charter, specifications and decisions live in the public repository. External code contributions aren't accepted yet; issues and discussion are welcome.

License

AGPL-3.0.

Run it, study it, change it. If you let others use a modified version over a network, you share those changes under the same license. Resonant IQ's modules are commercially licensed and live in separate repositories.

Status

Developer preview.

Helpthread runs Resonant IQ's own support desk. We depend on it ourselves. You can deploy it today if you're comfortable with pre-release software; interfaces may change before 1.0.

Then read the charter, which says it formally.
